worms in books, worms in the moon

My bedroom bookshelf next to my bed in my apartment also decorated with Knick Knacks

I'm known to enjoy some pages wherever I can

This week we had The Worm Moon!!! 🪱🌙 🖤

The March full moon is also known as the “worm moon”, according to the old Farmer's Almanac, because in the northern hemisphere in March the soil begins to warm and the first signs of life begin to return. Link to The Guardian story

I hope you are enjoying its energy, I also think of myself as a worm sometimes, when I dance, my fondness for a good leaf and when I read.

In the past 6 months I have read 11 books and I thought I would share with you some three my favourites.

Piranesi - Susanna Clarke (2020) https://www.theguardian.com/books/2021/sep/08/womens-prize-for-fiction-goes-to-susanna-clarkes-mind-bending-piranesi This is a book that I am extremely excited to re-read one day soon because I enjoyed it so much, I didn't want to put it down but I didn't want it to end. This read was recommended to me by my friend Reece and he was damn right that I would love it.Without too many spoilers, all I'll say is oh my darling baby protagonist I just want to wrap you up in a blanket and give you a cup of tea. 4.75/5⭐️

Scaramouche - Rafael Sabatini (1921) I picked this one up from the discounted, secondhand books on the outdoor shelves that The Strand has and I will be honest I was judging a book by its cover because a beautiful swashbuckling looking man was illustrated on the front and I fear that is my type, for only a couple of dollars I thought "wow what a (quite hot) bargain" more ways than one "why the heck not"...BUT it has now become one of my favourite novels I have ever read? I was on the edge of my seat?? I also learnt even more history??? The old language is kind of funny at parts and I had to have a dictionary on speed dial but holy moly what a delightful surprise. 5/5 ⭐️

Gone: Stories of Extinction - Michael Blencowe (2021) Another unexpected gem of a find! Sold off a table in Central Park, with a fish bookmark still inside one of the pages. I love animals very much so to read about ones that are no longer with us of course made me quite sad, mad, maternal(?), glad I'm vegetarian but with Blencowe’s clever writing with the perfect mix of factual information, personal anecdotes and quick wit it was an instant success for me and had me needing to share the book to everyone around me. 5/5 ⭐️
